Pokhalde Base Camp – at 5,400m There isn’t much to do apart from get into your sleeping bag and wait for your summit attempt! (No bar,no pool and definitely no fluffy robes hanging on the bathroom door!)

Ama Dablam (7200m) seen from the slopes of Island Peak at dawn. The sun picks out the distant mountains as the Imja valley gradually fills with the dawn light.

Climbing up to the ice wall on Island Peak – enough ice for a few gin and tonics?
On the Imja Glacier, roped up and ready to go! Unfortunately I’m wearing pink snow gaiters which I’m told were last year’s colour! (Singe Llama our climbing sherpa at the front).
